Why pilgrims stay at Bhatiya, not at Harshad
Harshad, properly Gandhvi, is a small coastal settlement below Koyla Dungar. The temple is the reason anyone goes there, and it does not have the room stock to sleep a busload of families comfortably. What it has is the sea, the hill, and one of the longest and most atmospheric aartis in Saurashtra.
Bhatiya is the nearest place with real hotel rooms. It sits on the Dwarka to Porbandar highway, about 30 km from the temple. That distance is the point: you sleep properly, eat properly, park safely, and still reach Harshad in around 40 minutes.
About Harshad Mata Temple
Harshad Mata, or Harsiddhi Mata, is the kuldevi of a very large number of Gujarati families, across Kshatriya, Rajput, Lohana, Brahmin and Vaishya communities, and she is worshipped by fishing communities along this whole coast as a protector of ships. That is why the temple fills up the way it does at Navratri.
The original shrine stood on top of Koyla Dungar. The temple you visit today sits at the foot of the hill, and the story of how it came down, involving the merchant Jagdu Shah and the ships he was losing at sea, is the one every local will tell you if you ask.
Aarti is held in the morning and again in the evening. The evening aarti is the one people travel for. Timings shift with the season and with festival days, so it is always worth confirming locally, and our reception will happily check for you before you leave.
Getting to Harshad from the hotel
Leave Keshav Residency, join the highway, and follow the coastal road south towards Miyani and Gandhvi. It is a straightforward run of roughly 30 km on decent road, and there is nowhere to get seriously lost.
- For the morning aarti, leave Bhatiya around an hour before. We will do you an early breakfast.
- For the evening aarti, go in the late afternoon and stay for sunset over the sea.
- During Navratri the road and the temple are both very crowded. Book your room well in advance.
- Ask at reception and we will arrange a car or a driver for the day.
What you get at Keshav Residency

- 24 hour hot water and power backup
- Pure vegetarian kitchen, Gujarati thali, Jain food on request
- Free CCTV covered parking for cars, tempo travellers and buses
- Reception staffed around the clock, so a late arrival is fine
